The Good: I pass my quarter-century in roughly 2 hours (5AM Central). I am not dead yet, nor have I felt the need to hit teh booze. Go me.

The Bad: I have a board meeting for my Botanical Garden Society this afternoon(1). They will likely be the only people I run into today IRL who know my name(2). Also, still no Field School grade.

The Other: Both of my parents did the very functional thing of sending me cash this year, thus covering the last of my (newly more expensive(3)) school books and the other miscellanies. I have enough left over that Dad is getting me a Stark Industries T-Shirt, and Mum is buying me dinner. [info]ladyholder, being a distressing sweetheart, has pre-ordered me the 2-Disc Iron Man DVD. *Smooches her*

Here's the thing: I have no idea what I'm getting for dinner(4). I was thinking that my F-List could help me out here. I live in an area where at least the urban standards of ethnic cuisine are available - Italian, Chinese, Vietnamese, Sushi, etc. So, suggestions?

Footnotes:
1. Don't ask how I ended up on the board, because I'd tell you, and then I'd have to kill you.
2. For some reason, I find this way more depressing than I should. It's really not that big of a deal.
3. For reasons that don't need elaborating upon at this moment, I had to rearrange my fall class schedule, and am suddenly taking "Social History of Healthcare", which required me to drop an ungodly sum of money on 3 books I hadn't planned on buying.
4. Or making, I'm flexible, and not horrific in a kitchen. Honest. And I live in a 4-unit building, so other people *would* notice if my place tried to burn down.

*Waves* Isn't insomnia wonderful?? I thought I'd take a moment to pimp, well, me. I'll be pimping one of my fic universes next week.

Since I'm awake anyway, I thought I'd mention that (in light of my birthday next Thursday*, I've updated my List of Standing Fannish Requests. It's my "If you want to do something nice for me, here's a bunch of suggestions" entry.

Right now, my personal vote is the icons section, but discovery!fic is a close second.

This is not to put pressure on people, because I'm sure everyone on my F-List is at least as busy as I am (*winces* and I'm already *weeks* behind on a birthday fic for CQ). It's just that otherwise, the poor page just lurks on my link-bar, and I have this sinking feeling that no one knows what it is.

*Also the day I get my grades back in 3 different classes (2 of which are from the Field School), WTF, prof??

ETA: Because I cannot sleep, I SPAM YOU ALL!!

[info]crimsonquills celebrates her birthday today (and I hope she has a blast!). Sadly, her birthday present from me is going to be delayed - an innocent little prompt-project exploded, so she's going to be getting a bit more than I'd originally intended. Realistically, Nix, it'll probably go up around Comic-Con.

[info]kijikun will also be getting hers at Comic-Con, even though that one will actually be a bit early (and not necessarily what you expect).

Anyone with a birthday in the next 4 months, feel free to start dropping prompts my way. That seems to be about the right amount of lead time, with the way my life has been going.

Unrelated: Does anyone know what's up with [info]multiverse5000? I don't know [info]andrastewhite personally, so I don't know if it's just late submissions or if she's got RL stuff going on, but she'd been really adamant about how she needed to get the archive online on time this year, and it's almost a week overdue.

This evening, I had a thought (shocking, I know). A plot-like thought, in fact.

However, it's not one I'm going to write. Instead, not only am I tacking it onto my list of Standing Fannish Requests, but I'm giving it its own journal entry, because I really think it could be a spectacular story - long or short. It's just not a story I'm going to be able to take on, at the moment.

Concept: Crossover Piece - New Avengers (or just Avengers) & CSI:NY

Due to some kind of authorial hand-waving device, Marvel Universe and the CSI universe cross (or possibly have coexisted all along, depending on how you handle it and when in the various time-lines you set it). Because they're CSIs and thus only see crime scenes after-the-fact (or at least have been CSIs since the whole "Super Hero" rumors started), Super Heroes are believed to be at best an exaggeration and at worst an out-of-control urban legend. They're not real.

Then something happens, and the two "worlds" cross. Maybe there's a death in Stark Tower. Maybe there's Web-residue on a victim (because it's always Peter's fault). Maybe Vibranium broke some sacred law of physics and Mac's having an attack of Newtonian Indignation.

Play around with it, do fun things. I have faith in you lot.

*Nudge Nudge, Wink Wink* My birthday's in 2 months, in case anyone wanted to know.

Been meaning to get this pulled together for quite a while. Yay! for procrastination, eh?

What It Is:

Simply put, it's a list of "Things I Want". For those pesky things like birthdays and other gift-giving occasions. Not monetary things, but fannish things. Icons, Covers (For My Fic), Fic, Etc

What It Means to You:

Absolutely nothing. No, really. This list comes with no strings attached. This is, as much as anything, a list of creative endeavours that I'd love to undertake but don't have the time for. The next time my birthday comes around, or the Winter Holidays, or whatever, I'd love to receive something off of here, but it's certainly not something I expect of any of my friends. We've all got busy lives.

As all y'all know, I've got this Massive To-Do List of fic.

What you may or may not know, is that there are actual deadlines associated with it. My current goal is to have between 2/3 and 3/4 of the projects listed on there as of April 30 done by September 1, when Fall Term starts. The rest are to be completed over the course of the academic year, and the whole list should be done by my June, 2009 graduation(1).

So why does this matter to you??

I'm a cheapskate(2), so the only birthday gifts going out this year are going to be the written variety. If you have a summer birthday (May/June/July/August/September, to stretch) - and you'd like me to write you a birthday fic, you need to let me know BEFORE MAY 1(3).

To do so, please reply to this post with the following(4):
  • A Fandom(5) and either
    A. A Pairing or
    B. Featured Character(s)

  • Some kind of prompt. The more detailed the request, the better (something as simple as a situation, or time-frame (S1, S3, etc) will suffice if you're feeling lazy).

  • Your Birthday (I don't care about year, but day and month so I have a due date, because I'm lazy)

  • Whether I'll see you in RL this summer (Comic-Con, you're in Vancouver region, etc)(6).

Expect to get 1-5,000 words within a week of your birthday.

Footnotes:
1. This does not mean new side projects, especially minor ones(read: under 2,000 words), will not be added. But the deadlines apply to the list as of April 30, 2008. Any entries added after that date will be marked as such.
2. Read: University Student
3. I leave for Europe the next day, and will have sketchy-at-best access to the interweb. This due date insures that you actually get something for your birthday.
4. Replies to this post will be screened for those who don't wish to publicize their birthdays.
5. If you're not sure if I'm familiar with a fandom, ask. I don't bite, honest, and have at least a passing familiarity with most (although there are some in which I'll honestly admit I'm not sufficiently well-versed to comfortably write something).
6. This does not impact if I write you a fic, but again is for my own personal data collection.

As previously stated - contrary to popular belief, I'm not actually dead yet.

General Connectivity News:
Explanation of my recent/current lack of general contact )

Advice Seeking:

Now, the real reason for this post (as if bitching about the evils of computer hardware isn't a legitimate reason): What, exactly, should I do with my lonesome on the anniversary of my birth?? )

I was going to post a fannish wishlist, but between one thing and another, I wasn't able to sit down and pull one together in a timely manner, so we'll leave that until next year. A good Torchwood icon would be appreciated, though. Or, you know, whatever. You lot are a creative bunch.

Other News:
Tomorrow is August 14. That's exactly 6 months before Valentine's Day. )

Wish me luck ^_^

Had the strangest dream last night. It began w/ going to a friend's birthday party (I haven't seen this friend in probably 2 years, and we don't actually talk anymore, but it made sense then), and ended with being involved in a RL Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy roleplay, where I ended up getting drunk @ the Restaurant at the End of the Universe. It was like it was themepark-ised, though, not the real HHGttG. And when I woke up, I was convinced I *should* have a hangover.

On a completely different note: OMG So Funny [info]silmecoire!!! I had wanted to do something for Neakum's birthday, but aside from being quite completely broke until I got my first paycheck Friday, I also honestly wasn't sure what to do. And I worked 11 hours yesterday, by the time I was off I was almost asleep on my feet. Give him my best, would you??

...I just couldn't figure out what it was, with the company and all. Brain kind of shut down.

Therefore a big belated birthday to [info]jenlynn820!! *Hugs* I'm so sorry I didn't catch you *on* your birthday. At least it was a weekend, I hope it was good.

OK, so I haven't actually finished reading FP yet. That kind of got waylaid by a random "Oo. Shiny." foray into BattleStar Gallactica (new and old), and some personal issues like RL. But I'm not as strung out familialy anymore, so that's OK. Oh, and I gave my brother the "This is Mortal Kombat. Worship" introductory viewing. *G*

My manifesto is a Damocles sword, I swear. I do hours of wonderful "Why is X doing this? Why is Y doing this? Why isn't Y screwing Z?" deliberations and justifications with [info]shrewreader, sort it all out, and then can't get onto the computer I write on. Since I issued my beta-ing draft. Which was 3 or 4 days ago. So I have all this wonderful data floating around, and haven't had a chance to really play with it. I think I need to print off a copy of my draft and hack away there. Might be easier.

Tonight I'm going out for a "We're observing your birthday tonight since there's a bowling banquet on Sunday"-dinner. I'm looking forward to some very good modern Asian cuisine. And that's the short version, on my life. It's more hectic than it sounds, oddly enough. But then so are most things. *G*

ETA: I *love* [info]d_sudis for her music posts to [info]ds_recs.

Since my birthday's coming up in 2 weeks (the 14th), I thought I'd put up things I would like. As the subject indicates, I don't expect any of my online friends to *get* me anything, more that it's a "to acquire" list for myself. I know most of my friends aren't any better off financially than I am. ^_^

Just some random expounding resulting from I don't know what. *Shrugs* Possibly a low grade case of depression, but I'm not sure. Could be worms ^_~ I'm sure it'll be better in the morning and I'll debate editting the entry. Right now it's probably just the headache talking.

On the bright side? I *so* know what [info]caras_galadhon is getting for her birthday. Which is good, because it's all of 3 months off ;) If only I could be so organized about everything else, eh? NM the number of birthdays I inadvertantly miss each year. *Headdesk*

Well, I'm back to watching Thunderheart. Once it's over I'll maybe try writing a little more and crash.
