Topic of the Day: Women in Athletics. Today's topic is one that is near and dear to my heart. I was a Title IX child, first female in the history of my school to compete on the Varsity Wrestling Team. I was proud beyond measure when a woman won a gold medal in wrestling at the 2008 Olympics. However, I have also had first-hand experience with the fact that Title IX is not perfect, and women are still consistently shorted when it comes to options and resources - especially in academic-athletic settings. The legislation itself can be problematic, because the recourse if a school refuses to provide an equivalent program for women is a lawsuit for said opportunity, and as often as not the end result is the removal of a men's team because there aren't the resources to fund two teams. It's a mess, and while it's getting better, there's still a long ways to go. The only way we're going to get there is if we keep our eyes open, and make sure our voices remain loud and strong.

Has anyone read the fine print on the back of the CNDN released Season 4?? Mine literally just arrived, and I'm looking at it and just can't help laughing.

"...Kowalski (Keith Callum Renne)."

"After many adventures and laughs, Brenton Fraser is heading back to Canada..."

"...includes the return of David Marciano as Detective Stanley Raymond Kowalski in the finale!"

I blame my spamming on [info]shrewreader...
When she gets the beta she's working on done, I'll have something more productive to do than trawling people's LJs. Well, that, and my lack of inspiration on Installment 2 of the Manifesto. *Headwall* *Head-Curling Rock* Anyone have any good suggestions for RayK and Turnbull? Like: Dates, Porn preferences, anything?

Which DS Character are you )

And the quiz result? Just seriously amuses me.

I met [info]ezust in person today after engaging in several transportational faux-pas (Like expecting the WMATA to actually function, or that the street lights near the metro station might work).

It was a wonderful, wonderful afternoon spent wandering Dupont Circle window shopping and chatting. We discussed such important and vitals things as:

"Still No Snow" - The essential line for the Due South VSDs, and who would need to *have* a VSD

"Fraser doesn't masturbate. Is this canon?!? Which episode is that from?" - A question our fandom desperately needs answered.

"How many different times would RayK and Fraser repaint a sample area before deciding on a colour choice for a communal living room?" - Home Depot's role in DS post-COTW fic.

and

"Every major slash-featured male in DS has passive-aggressive issues of a different nature. If you actually slash them, how long before the explosion?" - Debates on the self-destructive and unhealthy relationship habits of our beloved boys.

Conclusions from today: [info]dsudis needs to write [info]dues_research a hockey post, if she possibly can. I need to do a post on the Cubs wins and losses from 1997-99. I need to draft someone to do a post for the comm on Curling. Maybe I'll break down and do it, but I'd like to delegate for once and feel important. I need to attend a slash con and meet more fen in RL. I really need to get the Manifesto going, because I apparently pimp it well enough to get people interested.

OK. My organising spree has ended. At least with regards to my communities. They're all customized in a reasonable manner, they all have user icons (some better than others), and they've officially been pimped.

I can now go to bed. Oh, wait, I have a manifesto fic to work on. *Eyes bed longingly*

ETA: Well, maybe I'll only write a little. I feel I've done my fannish duty for the day.
